Welcome ~ Bienvenue ~ Willkommen ~ Bienvenido

Welcome to my blog. I will be writing the excitements, the lows and most probably the mundane events (to some) which will happen from now until the close of this blogging event.

A teacher of Modern Languages (French, German and now a little dabble into Spanish - whoop!), careering around the countries, cooking my way into food extremities and eating in a wannabe Nigella style-ee.

Incidentally - Advo Cat = cross between advocate and avocat, the latter = avocado in French, PLUS lawyer, PLUS my name's Cat. Combining all 3 elements into 1. Genius. (Well, not really, but it's quite nice.)

Meating eaty ~ no more!

Enough of the signs, we get it, we're stopping eating meat OR as I said earlier to BB 'no more meating eaty', because I was half asleep and rather hormonal.
So, The Sunday Times, the good food TV programmes, the knowledge that the meat that we buy en masse, and most regularly, is shite. To be blunt.
Which means as of our freezer being emptied of all meaty products (not long to go now, only 2 chicken thighs and 800g of lean scottish mince (you see, only the best really (; )) we will eat ONLY veg, maybe a little bit of fish, but then, my adventure into the fishing foray was less than successful, with ever the slightest hint of a bite, I ran screaming, arms flailing, into the foliage.
So, fish, maybe not.
Basically, if we don't know where it's come from, we don't want to eat it. Sensible in theory, let's see how it pans out...

Fatness and Healthiness

What what what!?
I have been reading MANY books and articles about how to lose the dreaded pounds of excess weight which have crept up on me over these months of comfort eating.
HOWEVER, despite Harry, Gizzi and her pals, despite Sainsbury's magazine telling me I am a comfort eater and to actually cook with different fats apart from LARD I have decided to air my grievances about this sweeping assumption that comfort eaters ie those that value food as a treat are fat greasy non experimental pie eaters!
How dare 4 skinny bints tell me, without knowing me (and yes I did take this to heart which really is a little silly however I am offended so I rant) 'there are other fats apart from lard you know!' I KNOW THAT! OF COURSE I KNOW THAT. In fact I have never even cooked with lard.
The point is food is a comfort, yes, however it is also something I and these other poor misunderstood comfort eaters enjoy.
Like Nigella (a wannabe Nige as I am) I like to potter. Potter about the house, potter about the kitchen, just pottering. And cooking, chopping, preparing food and all that goes with cooking is relaxing, comforting.
So why not change the binge eating confusion and realise that cooking is not only about eating, it is taking pleasure in food. It is surely healthy to hold food in a certain esteem - it is afterall something which not everyone has access to, and most definitely not in the varieties that we are currently fortunate to have.
IF I choose after a hard day, a hard week, to come home, and relax, by pottering, chopping, sauteeing (posh for frying with a certain French tilt implied), roasting, ALL these pleasurable pastimes (sp?), that does not mean I am a pie eating glutton.
Surely the key to a healthy life, to a healthy diet is not NOT to focus on food, why not focus on food? It is the bad arsey food which should be avoided, FINE. I can cope with that. But to HAVE to focus on another obsession rather than food is silly. Silly silly silly. And I shan't do it. No I shan't.
"More fizzy pop Eliza?" "Why, I think I shall."

Perfect day

Start off the day with a good long walk through the country, stroking random dogs on their daily jaunts. Return to a homecooked lunch, and some proper cake making - Gingerbread with white icing no less! Once finished, prepare the healthy and colourful dinner - only 6 points in total (now I'm following the big WW once more) and a manicure.
Happy days.
Also thought would share this great new find, condensed milk does kick all arses!

Mystery Eyes

So today I commited my first Mystery Shopper assignment, or rather I completed, but I havn't yet so let's stay with committed.
Exciting. Being paid for eating food (albeit nominal, still payment) - yay!
I recommend to you all the Dominos Pizza 'Meateor' it is delish! Have I succomb to the strange Sunday Times vocab - 'delish' - can we not write full words anymore? Seemingly  not.
Time for a beer, time for a tidy, but happy in the satiety that half of a large pizza brings.
Yum (c:
(Note the whole peanuts by the side - ooph!)
PS Nigella on Radio 4 food programme next - 'scucha!)

The Cats

There will be many cats which appear throughout my blurbings or bloggings or leggings, whatever these little excerpts of text and blurtings are called (there, four names in one sentence) so I will introduce the main ones first. Cat Face obviously has gone up as my profile picture, don't want any of the little treasures finding me now do we? Secondly, Henry's Cat, note the apostrophe. He is not called Henry.  He is the cat of Henry. See him here Good News

Blog start

For ages now I have been saying I would blog, in fact my boss passed me a 'how to blog' guide, to set up a blog for me, for the department maybe, but let's start with me -  it's a small start!
I should be keeping track of my probationer web site now, to make sure all is in order so that I can pass this year which has gone OHHHHh so quickly.
Easter hols and the diet begins. Cook yourself thin Miss Cat is the name of the game, so from now on, cooking with a view to losing fatness.
Tales from the Kitchen, tales from the Classroom, and tales from the - whatever method of transport I have most recently used to bop up and down the road in.
Let's see how we get on...
